Breakers Roll to MMDA Championship!

Game 1: The 8th seeded Montreal Miracle send ace Jered Weaver (15-13, 3.56, 203 k's) to the hill to face Breaker control artist Joel Pineiro (14-10, 3.45, 31 bb in 33 starts.) In a theme that will soon become repetitive, the Breakers waste little time in putting the game on ice. 3rd inning homeruns by JD Drew (.238/16/54) and Nick Swisher (.229/21/62) spot Cape Cod to a 3-run lead, and they need little else. Mariano Rivera (3-4, 2.60, 24 saves) goes 1-1/3 for the save in the 4-1 Breakers win. Cape Cod leads the series 1-0.

Game 2: Midseason acquisition Cole Hamels (7-4, 2.80 as a Miracle) vs Scott "Breaker" Baker (18-11, 3.75.) The Breakers score early on a Carlos Beltran single and SB. Beltran advances to 3rd on an Adrian Gonzalez groundout, then scores on a Troy Tulowitzki grounder. After that, the Miracle and Breakers trade punches all the way until the 9th inning. And the 10th. And the 11th. Until finally in the bottom of the 12th post-season hero Alex Rodriguez works out a walk against Renyel "Built Ford Tough" Pinto to give Cape Code the 5-4 win and the 2-0 series lead.

Game 3: The scene shifts to Montreal, where 3,000 screaming LaBatt Blue fueled fans have come to cheer on the hometown 9. Steve Tresca sends Kevin "Don't Call me North" Correia (12-10, 4.84) to the bump, while Montreal counters with Josh "I don't need no steenking nickname" Outman (5-3, 2.59.) As is their wont, the Breakers break out early with 2 runs in the top of the 1st. An A-Rod single and a Carlos Beltran double each plate a single runner. And each Breaker knock equals the entire offensive output of the entire Miracle squad for the entire game. Cape Cod adds 3 more AllState runs (just in case of unplanned Mayhem,) and takes a 3-0 series lead with the 5-1 win.

Game 4: Pineiro v. Weaver II. Shockingly, the Breakers score first. And also 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th. And 7th. Did we mention 7th? Down a TD, Montreal manages to scratch out two "hey, at least we didn't get shut out runs" while the janitorial crew covers the visitors' clubhouse in those clear plastic sheets that make the cleanup of champagne spills oh so much easier. Cape Cod rolls to a 10-3 win, and the 4-0 sweep.

Congratulations to Steve Tresca and the Cape Cod Breakers on their 2010 MMDA World Championship!
